Mississauga Transit Page

Welcome to the Mississauga Transit Fleet page

From 1978 to 2002, all be buses came from Orion excepted as noted.

The system came into existent in 1974 with a mixture of new and old buses by different manufacture, transit systems as well the fore runner Charterways, that was servicing the area at the time.

Since Orion was Mississauga based, MT became the first system to obtain and test The New Orion VII design in 2002 that was 12 month late from the production line.

It's a good thing MT only order 14 of them as they were a nightmare and lead to a law suite by the city over them.

It took close to 6 months to get the problems fix before they could be put into service in early 2003. Since then these buses still have various issues.

Between The Orion VI and VII, these are the worst buses in the fleet as well by Orion

MT has the 2nd largest fleet of 60' articulated buses in Ontario after Ottawa OC Transit. There are 45 in the fleet today.

MT is now replacing their buses every 12 years compare to the 18-20 years time line as it is cheaper to do so. Also, the Government of Ontario calls for it if they are paying a portion of the cost.

Once the 40 Orion V 9700's series are retire, NFI will be use 100% for all 40 foot and 60 foot buses. The 30 foot buses are by El Dorado.

Have been pushing the El Dorado buses since 2003 when I had an opportunity to ride the demo that was up in Stafford from there to York Region Headquarters. It rode like a highway coach. I tryout various parts of the bus and I could not find a bad seat for the ride considering we were traveling at 120 km along the 401.

The first bus I rode after the trip was an Orion VII than rode as a tank.

MT only need 30 foot buses for 40% of their routes since ridership is very low, more friendly to local side streets and don't give that empty look compare to 40'.

Below is the current fleet as of January 01, 2011.

The numbers do not add up to what the system is supposed to have as the numbers are lower for operation because buses have been retire to engine fires, accidents or other problems.

MT is supposed to be receiving 15 additional buses for expansion yearly on top of the replacement schedule for each year.

MT Will be placing an order for 22 60DELFR buses for delivery in 2010 that will be assign to 100's routes on Hurontario and Dundas St.

Current fleet comprise of 67 60DLF-R, 24 30DLF and 360 40DLF-R

Some buses have GPS. All buses will be by 2010/11

The El Dorado and the Orion II's were used as the test bed for the Presto Fare card since they service the GO Station as GO Shuttle buses for peak time service. The testing was completed in September 2008 and MT is waiting for the full roll out of the system in late 2010.

The fleet will finally start to see bike racks starting in 2010. Note: happen in 2009

MT will be receiving a further 15 60DELFR in 2012 when the 403-Eglinton BRT opens.

Word is that the 9800's buses were retire in 2010 and replace with 24 30DLF, not the 40 currently in the fleet.

You can go to WIKI to get more detail information on the bus fleet as to various items.

On October 4th, 2010, MT unveil the new paint scheme for the 2 types of buses that will service the system with orange for local and blue for express. At the same time, the system is to be known as Mi-way, not Mississauga Transit.
